In partnership with ISDF

Self-defense that works — built on science.

Together with the International Self Defense Federation we bring evidence-based self-defense to Ticino: biomechanics, psychology and anatomy. It works regardless of age, size or strength.

What the ISDF method is

The International Self Defense Federation (ISDF) develops evidence-based self-defense programs: not inherited martial traditions, but techniques verified against how body and mind actually react to an assault.

The result is a method anyone can learn: it uses leverage instead of strength, teaches you to recognize and avoid danger before it happens, and strikes effectively only when there is no alternative.

isdf.ch — the federation's official site, with full details on the method and certifications.

The three scientific pillars

Every technique in the program rests on three disciplines.

Biomechanics

Leverage beats strength: you learn to use weight, balance and body angles, so techniques work even against someone bigger and stronger than you.

Psychology

The best defense is never getting to the fight: situational awareness, reading warning signs, de-escalation and prevention — plus training to decide under stress.

Anatomy

Knowing the human body means knowing where an action is truly effective — and where it isn't. Maximum effect with minimum effort, only when needed.

Three training levels

A progressive path: each level builds on the previous one.

  1. 1. 8 weeks

    Foundation

The basics that protect you from day one: prevention, de-escalation and the first essential techniques.

    • Situational awareness and danger recognition
    • Verbal de-escalation techniques
    • Basic strikes and guard positions
    • Escapes from grabs and holds
  2. 2. 12 weeks

    Intermediate

More complex scenarios and reality-based training: on the ground, against several people, under pressure.

    • Ground defense
    • Handling multiple attackers
    • Weapon awareness and safe distances
    • Training under controlled stress
  3. 3. 16 weeks

    Advanced

The highest level: complex scenarios, trauma-informed defense and access to ISDF instructor certification.

    • Complex, realistic scenarios
    • Trauma-informed approach for survivors of violence
    • Complete technical consolidation
    • ISDF instructor certification path

How it differs from traditional martial arts

Martial arts are valuable disciplines, but they were born as long-term sporting and cultural paths: they take years of practice and unfold within precise rules. ISDF self-defense has a narrower, more immediate goal: protecting you in the real world, in as little time as possible.

That's why every exercise starts from real situations — not the mat, but the street, public transport, home — and progress is measured on what matters: recognizing danger, avoiding confrontation and, when unavoidable, getting out of it.
